Annuity FYI was founded in 2000 by Tom Hamlin, one of the top independent annuity producers of all time with over $700,000,000 of personal annuity production (and still ticking) and with all that business not a single customer complaint. It’s a testament to the philosophy he embodied then, as he does now, which is a belief system that goes something like this: “In order for the world’s continued survival, it is imperative that we strive to add value every day and to make the world a better place whenever and wherever we can and to accept another person’s opinion as being valid even if it differs from your own”. Innately, most good people add value regularly, often subconsciously, even if they can’t put their finger on it.
For those of you who know Tom, you’re probably very familiar with his significant use of anecdotes, analogies and metaphors. He uses them in an effort to get his point across and to help educate people (not so much sell), i.e. a picture speaks a thousand words. As a boy, Tom’s father exclaimed, “Tommy, the world is divided up into two types of people, givers and takers, and you need to decide which one you are”. His father also taught him, “Money is a by-product of a job well done” and “If you take care of the people, the people will take care of you”. It even goes beyond those pearls of wisdom in the belief that you should never do anything that you cannot vehemently defend and are not proud of, which leads us to what Annuity FYI may be able to do for you as an Investment Professional.
Taking things to the next level, Tom felt that in order for Annuity FYI to maintain its unbiased and independent status, he and his company, Somerset, could no longer own it. Therefore, some time ago, they decided to sell AnnuityFYI.com to my group who had already been operating the site for thirteen years. The Annuity FYI mission is to embody the aforementioned and to even take those sentiments a step further by employing another saying frequently used by Tom; “Planting shade trees under which we know we will never sit”. What could this all mean to you, as an investment professional?
